A Brief History of Bulova

Bulova began in 1875 when a Bohemian immigrant by the name of Joseph Bulova opened a timepiece and jewelry store in lower Manhattan, NY. Joseph had prior watchmaking and jewelry training, and his store quickly became known for its high quality and precision. In 1912, he opened his first watch factory in Biel, Switzerland, positioning himself as one of the first mass producers of wristwatches. His name quickly became synonymous with elegance and innovation, not to mention advertising being among the first brands to use radio advertising. And in 1960, he launched the world’s first fully electronic wristwatch, the Accutron. On many Bulova models, you’ll notice the signature tuning fork symbol in the 12 o’clock spot, representing the electronic Accutron technology.

Bulova watches have served as trendsetters in the world of timepieces and continue to release innovative pieces with contemporary styles and design, an appeal that has lasted for more than 150 years.
